  1. 1.

    1 national VIDEX application form with declaration according to Section 54 AufenthG per applicant

    + 3 copies

    Please fill out the visa application online. Afterwards, print out all pages including the last page with the barcode, and sign the application as well as the attached declaration. You must submit one application form for each applicant.
    2.

    For each application form:

    3 recent passport pictures of the applicant

    (3 passport pictures of the spouse/fiancé(e) living in Germany, if necessary)

    • 2 identical passport pictures each
    • not older than 6 months
    • front shot
    • biometric
    • dimensions 35 x 45mm.

    Passport

    + 3 copy of the data page and all pages that contain visas, stamps, or remarks

    The passport must be machine-readable and valid for at least 90 days from the moment of entry into Germany.

    • Make sure that your passport does not expire during the visa application process.
    • If the validity of your passport needs to be extended, please make sure that the extension is done before the passport’s expiration date.
    • The passport must contain the holder’s signature or fingerprint

    Original e-Tazkira and/or paper Tazkira

    Please submit the “e-Tazkira” (plastic card) and/or paper Tazkira of all applicants.

    If a passport was issued based on a previous Tazkira please also submit the previous Tazkira

    Visa fee of 75.00 EUR (per adult applicant.

    To be paid only in cash.

    The daily exchange rate of the embassy will be used for the currency conversion.

    No visa fee will be charged for spouses and minor single children of German or EU citizens as well as parents of German minors.

    Family members of persons entitled to freedom of movement are also exempt from the visa fee.

    The visa fee won’t be reimbursed if the visa is rejected.

    There are no further fees to be paid, besides the visa fee. If you submit your application at an official external service provider (“visa application centre”) there will be an additional service fee. You can check the amount of this service fee on the internet page of the embassy and of the service provider.

If one spouse was represented during the wedding ceremony by another person, an official power of attorney for the representative as well as the acceptance letter must be provided (+ 3 copies)

well as your motivation, stating why you wish to work
in Germany.

Please note: If you want to enter Germany on the
basis of the new Skilled Immigration Act, your
educational qualification must have been recognized
in Germany in advance and the recognition must be
submitted together with the visa application.

3Proof of employment in the form of a copy of your employment contract

  • The employment contract must contain at least the
    following information:
    • Time of start and duration of the employment contract
    • Gross salary
    • Job description
    • Company’s commercial register number
    • Employer’s contact data

Proof of German or English language skills in the form of certificates;

  • original
  • + 3 copies

German language skills can only be proven by certificates of the Goethe-Institute or TestDaF-Institute.

Language exams can be taken for
instance in India or Pakistan.

English language skills can only be proven through TOEFL or IELTS examination courses.

Other language certificates cannot be accepted.

  • For language courses: Proof of enrollment and payment of the course

  • An application confirmation (Bewerberbestätigung) is sufficient for prospective students applying for Bachelor's degree. Postgraduated students applying for a Master's degree or PhD program in Germany must present an admission letter (Zulassungsbescheid)

  • The course has to be an intensive course with at least 18 hours of tuition per week and it has to lead to a certain level of knowledge (i.e. C1).

  • Proof of financial funds to cover the stay and the studies in Germany
    • + 3 copies
  • Sufficient financial means can be proven by a formal obligation according to sections 66 - 68 of the Residence Act or by a blocked account with at least 992,00 EUR for each month of stay.
  • Furth information to opening a blocked accounts can be found on the website of the Federal Foreign Office

If a passport was issued based on a previous Tazkira please also submit the previous Tazkira.

  • If one spouse was represented by another person during the wedding ceremony (proxy marriage): Original power of attorney for the representative + translation

  • In case of previous marriage(s): Original divorce certificate or death certificate or declaration of a missing person of the former spouse + translation

  • Preferably Nikah Khat (white or green marriage book in DIN A5 format), alternatively Waseeqa Khat (DIN A4 format, blue border).
  • The marriage certificate must contain the place, the exact date of the marriage contract (“Nikkah”) as well as the marriage portion.
  • The marriage certificate should provide information about all children born before the certificate was issued.
  • If one spouse travelled from Germany for the marriage and issuance of the marriage certificate, please submit corresponding proof (entry and exit stamps in the passport, visas, flight tickets, boarding passes etc.).

If you intend to get married in Germany:

  • Copy of the confirmation of wedding registration from the local
    German registry office
    + 1 copy
    and
  • Original certificate of non-marriage
    of the applicant + translation
    + 1 copy
    or
  • Exemption from the certificate of no
    impediment to marriage pursuant to
    Section 1309 (2) BGB (German civil
    code)
    + 1 copy
    • and in each instance
  • declaration of commitment
    (“Verpflichtungserklärung”) from
    the fiancé(e) in Germany to the
    applicant
    + 1 copy
  • This confirmation is called “Bescheinigung über die Anmeldung der Eheschließung” and is issued by the local German registry office (“Standesamt”).
  • Unmarried or Non-Marriage certificates are
    issued by Afghan courts

In case of family reunification to a foreign citizen:

  • Copy of recent German language certificate (level A1 or higher)
  • copy of passport and copy of recent valid residence
    permit (“Aufenthaltstitel”) (front and back side) of the
    spouse/fiancé(e)

In case of family reunification to a German citizen:

  • copy of passport or German ID of the spouse/fiancé(e)
  • The language certificate must be issued by a test centre that is certified by ALTE (in Pakistan: Goethe Institut and ÖSD).
  • The certificate must not be older than one year from the date of application (submission of the application documents to the embassy).
  • Whether you might be exempt from having to prove basic German language skills can only be determined after the application was submitted to the embassy.

  • Copy of the spouse’s or fiancé(e)’s residence registration certificate
The residence registration certificate (“Meldebescheinigung”) must not be older than 6 months from the date of application
(submission of the application documents to the embassy).

In case your spouse or fiancé(e) obtained asylum status, refugee status or subsidiary protection:

  • 1 copy of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) certificate regarding the award of the protection status

and, if applicable:

  • 1 copy of proof of timely notification in accordance with Section 29 (2) AufenthG (“Fristwahrende Anzeige”)

Please submit a complete copy of the certificate (“BAMF-Bescheid”).

You can submit a timely notification online on

www.fap.diplo.de

or directly at the competent German Foreigner’s Authority (“Ausländerbehörde”).

7.

If existing:

  • pictures of the Nikah with date stamp (copy)
  • family pictures (copy)

    and

  • proof of existing contact between the spouse/fiancé(e) in Germany and the applicant (copy)

Please submit family pictures of different time periods, events and occasions.

Chat history / call log (with dates!) from at least 5 different days of the last 2 months before submitting the application.

8.If applicable: copy of the power of attorney for the lawyer in GermanyPlease be aware that letters and emails will only be sent to your authorized lawyer.

Only parents are entitled to apply for family reunification with unaccompanied minor refugees in Germany.
Minor siblings of the refugee who also want to reunite need to apply for a visa for family reunification with their parents. Please prepare the documents of the minor siblings according to our information sheet “Family reunification of minor children with parents in Germany”.

If your unaccompanied child is recognized as a refugee in Germany, please read the following information carefully:

If your child reached the age of majority during the asylum process, your application must be submitted within 3 months counting from the date your child obtained the official refugee recognition certificate (“Anerkennungsbescheid”) from the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF).


If your child obtained the subsidiary protection (“subsidiärer Schutzstatus”) in Germany, please read the following information carefully:


Your application must be submitted before your child reaches the age of majority. As soon as your child reaches the age of majority, a parental reunification is no longer possible.


Please arrange your documents in the order as indicated in the table below. Document translations are accepted in German or English.

1.1 copy of the Tazkira of your child in Germany + translation, if existing
2.Original marriage certificate (Nikah Khat or Waseeqa Khat) + translation
+ 1 copy of all pages
If one spouse was represented by another person during the wedding ceremony (proxy marriage):

In case of previous marriage(s):

1 copy of residence registration certificate of the child living in Germany
The residence registration certificate (“Meldebescheinigung”) must not be older than 6 months from the date of application (submission of the application documents to the embassy).
4.1 copy of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) certificate regarding the award of the protection statusPlease submit a complete copy of the certificate (“BAMF-Bescheid”).
5.If applicable: copy of the power of attorney for the lawyer in GermanyPlease be aware that letters and emails will only be sent to your authorized lawyer.

Please note that in accordance with the legislative interpretation of Sections 27 et seqq. AufenthG, family reunification of other family members is generally not possible and only possible in exceptional cases of hardship. These exceptional cases of hardship must always be family-related.

A general humanitarian or financial hardship is generally not sufficient for a visa to be issued. If your individual situation does not differ significantly from the general situation of people in Afghanistan, your visa application will most likely be rejected.

All applicants must appear in person. Minor children must be accompanied by a parent or official guardian at the appointment.

1.

Documents proving a family relation to the family member to whom the reunification is to take place,

  • original + translation
  • + 1 copy

Please submit all official documents that prove your family relation to the family member to whom the reunification is to take place (e. g. corresponding e-Tazkira, marriage certificates etc.). There must be no doubts about the family relation.

If adult children apply for family reunification with their parents, the parents’ marriage certificate should be submitted. The marriage certificate must contain the place, the exact date of the marriage contract (“Nikkah”) as well as the marriage portion. The marriage certificate should provide information about all children born before the certificate was issued.

In case of family reunification of minor children with family members other than the parents, the death or disappearance of the parents must be proven (e. g. death certificate, court ruling etc.).

2.

Accompanying letter with detailed and up-to-date documentation showing the reasons for the need to reunite

  • + translation

Provide suitable documents and a detailed cover letter to explain why you are experiencing exceptional hardship, i. e. why it is absolutely necessary for you to join your family member in Germany.

If the applicants is ill or in need of nursing care, for example, please provide relevant and up-to-date medical certificates.

If the family member in Germany is dependent on the applicant's care, for example, please submit meaningful medical reports on the family member.

It is important to explain the individual case in detail.

In case of family reunification to a foreign citizen:

  • copy of passport
  • and copy of recent valid residence permit (“Aufenthaltstitel”) (front and back side) of the family member.

In case of family reunification to a German citizen:

  • - copy of passport or German ID of the family member

and in all cases:

  • Copy of the family member’s residence registration certificate
The residence registration certificate (“Meldebescheinigung”) must not be older than 6 months from the date of application (submission of the application documents to the embassy).
4.If applicable: copy of the power of attorney for the lawyer in GermanyPlease be aware that letters and emails will only be sent to your authorized lawyer.

If the minor child will soon be of legal age and has not yet had an appointment for an interview, submit an informal application for a visa by email to the competent embassy as soon as possible.

The informal application must contain the personal data of the minor child as well as the personal data of the parent to whom the reunification is to take place. Please note that this does not entitle you to a preferential appointment in the sense of a special appointment.

Please arrange your documents in the order as indicated in the table below. Document translations are accepted in German or English.

A parent or legal guardian must accompany the minor child to the visa appointment.

1.If applicable: Evidence that you already submitted an informal application (printout of the email you sent to the embassy)In case one parent has died, please submit the original death certificate with translation and a copy.

If one parent remains in Afghanistan:

  • Declaration by the remaining parent that he/she gives consent to the child moving to Germany to live with the other parent, to be handed in personally at the visa section

In case one parent died or is declared missing:

  • Original death certificate or original official declaration of lost issued by court
    • + translation
    • + 1 copy

In case one parent refuses to give his/her consent or has no custody of the child:

  • Original evidence issued by court that the other parent has sole custody
  • + 1 copy

The declaration of consent needs to be signed in person by the remaining parent at the visa section of the German Embassy.

The death certificate must enlist all heirs of the deceased parent.

7.

If applicable:

Further documents with regards to the custody of the child

8.

Children aged 16 and older:

If applicable, copy of C1 German language certificate

Children of foreigners who have reached the age of 16 and who are not moving to Germany together with their sole legal guardian must submit a C1 level German language certificate.

Whether a child might be exempt from having to prove German language skills on a C1 level can only be determined after the application was submitted to the embassy.

The language certificate must be issued by a test centre that is certified by ALTE (in Pakistan and Iran: Goethe Institut and ÖSD). The certificate must not be older than one year from the date of application (submission of the application documents to the embassy).

9.

If parent to whom the reunification is to take place is a foreigner:

  • 1 copy of passport and
  • 1 copy of recent valid residence permit (“Aufenthaltstitel”) (front and back side) of parent in Germany

If parent to whom the reunification is to take place is German:

  • 1 copy of passport or German ID of parent in Germany
If the person to whom the reunification is to take place is not a parent but a sibling of the applicant, please submit a copy of the sibling’s passport and residence permit.
10.Copy of the parent’s residence registration certificateThe residence registration certificate (“Meldebescheinigung”) must not be older than 6 months from the date of application (submission of the application documents to the embassy).
11.

In case the parent in Germany obtained asylum status, refugee status or subsidiary protection:

  • 1 copy of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) certificate regarding the award of the protection status

and, if applicable:

  • 1 copy of proof of timely notification in accordance with Section 29 (2) AufenthG (“Fristwahrende Anzeige”)
